C-006 - Automatic Transmission Oil-Level Check

Work Order Description

Nominal Value

T001

Check: Oil Level

  • Vehicle in horizontal position
  • Parking brake applied
  • Brake pedal actuated
  • Engine running at idle speed, operating temperature
  • Automatic transmission oil temperature 80 °C (176 °F)
  • Shift selector lever once through all positions from P to 1 and back to P again
  • Wait time: minimum 60 s
  • Check automatic transmission oil level

Note:

For proper function of the automatic transmission, the oil level must be in the middle between the marks of the oil dipstick field " 80 °C (176 °F) ".

To measure the oil temperature exactly, you should place the oil thermometer in the oil dipstick tube through to the oil sump.

Is the oil level too low?

Yes: No:

E001 Result: Oil Level
  • Correct automatic transmission oil level

Note:

The oil level must be checked again after the oil-level correction.

Inspect transmission and transmission oil cooling system for leakage

E002 Result: Oil Level
  • Correct automatic transmission oil level

Note:

If oil level is too high, this will lead to foaming and leaks at sealing and breather. This may cause problems in shifting, slipping clutches, brakes and transmission damages. To avoid this, fill the automatic transmission oil only up to the minimum mark corresponding to the oil temperature of 80 °C (176 °F). Check the oil level at 80 °C (176 °F) again afterwards.
