Diagnostic Trouble Code Storage Condition

Brake Switch Circuit Malfunction

• The control unit receives the following signal not or wrong:
  Brake pedal signal
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 4 s .

Automatic Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction

• Selector lever position switch coding logic does not indicate a valid combination.
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 1 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 4" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Automatic Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit High Input

• Short to voltage or interruption in circuit to control unit terminal TCM: 7, 8 (XC61)
• Selector lever in position D, 4, 3, 2, 1
• Engine speed is greater than 400 rpm
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 1 s .

Replacement Value:

• Automatic transmission oil temperature 80 °C (176 °F)

Effect:

• The slip control of the torque converter clutch is disabled.
• The neutral control function is locked

Automatic Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Input

• Short to ground in circuit to control unit terminal TCM: 7, 8 (XC61)
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 10 s .

Replacement Value:

• Automatic transmission oil temperature 80 °C (176 °F)

Effect:

• The slip control of the torque converter clutch is disabled.
• The neutral control function is locked

Automatic-Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction

• The control unit recognises an implausible value from the automatic transmission oil temperature sensor within 15 min after the engine has been started.

Replacement Value:

• Automatic transmission oil temperature 80 °C (176 °F)

Effect:

• The slip control of the torque converter clutch is disabled.
• The neutral control function is locked

Automatic-Transmission Input Speed Circuit No Signal

• No turbine wheel speed signal recognised
• Selector lever in position D, 4, 3, 2
• Vehicle speed is greater than 20 km/h (12 mph)
• 3000 pulses from automatic transmission output speed sensor detected
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 0.3 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Automatic-Transmission Input Speed Circuit Range/Performance

• The deviation of the speed ratio (ABS output speed to turbine wheel speed) is greater than 15 % for longer than 8 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Automatic-Transmission Output Speed Circuit No Signal

• No automatic transmission output speed signal recognised
• Selector lever in position D, 4, 3, 2
• Vehicle speed is greater than 20 km/h (12 mph)
• 6000 pulses from turbine wheel speed sensor detected
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 0.3 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Automatic-Transmission Output Speed Circuit Range/Performance

• The deviation of the speed ratio (ABS wheel speed to automatic transmission output speed) is more than 15 % for longer than 8 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Engine Speed Signal Range/Performance

• The control unit receives the following signal not or wrong:
  Engine Speed
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 4 s .

Effect:

• Service Vehicle Soon Lamp ON
• Engine telltale is switched on

Gear 6 Incorrect Ratio

• The measured gear ratio deviates more than 20 % from the expected ratio in gear 6 for longer than 5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Gear 1 Incorrect Ratio

• The measured gear ratio deviates more than 4 % from the expected ratio in gear 1 for longer than 5 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 150 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Gear 1 Incorrect Ratio with activated Engine Brake

• The measured gear ratio deviates more than 20 % from the expected ratio in gear 1 for longer than 5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Gear 2 Incorrect Ratio

• The measured gear ratio deviates more than 20 % from the expected ratio in gear 2 for longer than 12 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 12" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 150 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio

• The measured gear ratio deviates more than 20 % from the expected ratio in gear 3 for longer than 12 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 150 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio

• The measured gear ratio deviates more than 20 % from the expected ratio in gear 4 for longer than 12 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 150 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Gear 5 Incorrect Ratio

• The measured gear ratio deviates more than 20 % from the expected ratio in gear 5 for longer than 12 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 150 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Reverse Incorrect Ratio

• The measured gear ratio deviates more than 20 % from the expected ratio in gear R for longer than 6 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 150 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Torque Converter Clutch Circuit High Input

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 4, 9 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Low Input

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 4, 9 (XC61) ) is too low.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction

• Short circuit in wiring harness to control unit terminal TCM: 4, 9 (XC61) .
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 2.75 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Linear Solenoid Valve Torque Converter Clutch Stuck

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 4, 9 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Pressure Control Solenoid Circuit Low Input

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 1, 3 (XC61) ) is too low.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Pressure Control Solenoid Circuit High Input

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 1, 3 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 150 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Pressure Control Solenoid Electrical Malfunction

• Short circuit in wiring harness to control unit terminal TCM: 1, 3 (XC61) .
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 2.75 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Pressure Control Solenoid Valve Stuck

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 1, 3 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Shift Solenoid Valve 2 Circuit Low Input

• The voltage level recognised by the control unit at the relevant control unit output (terminal TCM: 2 (XC61) ) is "low" ( 0 V ), although the output was set "high" by the control unit ( 12 V ; solenoid actuated).
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Shift Solenoid Valve 2 Circuit Open or High Input

• The voltage level recognised by the control unit at the relevant control unit output (terminal TCM: 2 (XC61) ) is "high" ( 12 V ), although the output was set "low" by the control unit ( 0 V ; solenoid not actuated).
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 5" will be activated.
• The "Emergency Mode 1 " will be activated, if the vehicle speed is less than 10 km/h (6 mph).
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Shift Solenoid Valve 1 Circuit Low Input

• The voltage level recognised by the control unit at the relevant control unit output (terminal TCM: 5 (XC61) ) is "low" ( 0 V ), although the output was set "high" by the control unit ( 12 V ; solenoid actuated).
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Shift Solenoid Valve 1 Circuit Open or High Input

• The voltage level recognised by the control unit at the relevant control unit output (terminal TCM: 5 (XC61) ) is "high" ( 12 V ), although the output was set "low" by the control unit ( 0 V ; solenoid not actuated).
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 185 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Shift Malfunction

• The control unit detects a malfunction while shifting.

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 150 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

"Manual Shifting" Switch Circuit Open or High Voltage

• Short to voltage or interruption in circuit to control unit terminal TCM: 3 (XC60)
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 30 s .

Effect:

• No manual shift mode available.

"Manual Shifting" Switch Circuit Low Voltage

• Short to ground in circuit to control unit terminal TCM: 3 (XC60)
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 30 s .

Effect:

• No manual shift mode available.

Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Malfunction

• The control unit receives the following signal not or wrong:
  Accelerator pedal position
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 4 s .

Effect:

• Service Vehicle Soon Lamp ON
• Engine telltale is switched on

Slippage Of Clutch 'C1' At Neutral Control Off

• Turbine wheel speed increases more than expected during shifting on clutch C1 .
• Main pressure is greater than 3000 hPa ( 3 bar )
• Automatic transmission oil temperature is greater than 10 °C (50 °F)
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.3 s .

Effect:

• The neutral control function is locked
• The malfunction indication is switched on.
• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.

No Release Of Clutch 'C1' At Neutral Control On

• Vehicle speed is greater than 30 km/h (19 mph)
• Automatic transmission oil temperature is greater than 10 °C (50 °F)
• Main pressure is less than 250 hPa ( 0.25 bar )
• Turbine wheel speed is less than 400 rpm
• Clutch C1 inactive
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 5 s .

Effect:

• The neutral control function is locked

No Engagement of Clutch 'C1' At Neutral Control On

• Turbine wheel speed is greater than 400 rpm
• Neutral Control is activated
• Vehicle speed is greater than 30 km/h (19 mph)
• Automatic transmission oil temperature is greater than 10 °C (50 °F)
• Main pressure is greater than 1500 hPa ( 1.5 bar )
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 2 s .

Effect:

• The neutral control function is locked

Front Left Wheel Speed Sensor Malfunction

• The control unit recognises a malfunction of the distance signal via an internal evaluation logic.
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 4 s .

Front Right Wheel Speed Sensor Malfunction

• The control unit recognises a malfunction of the distance signal via an internal evaluation logic.
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 4 s .

Torque Converter Clutch Stuck Close

• The control unit recognises judder at the torque converter clutch.

Effect:

• The slip control of the torque converter clutch is disabled.

Transmission Component Slipping

• The control unit recognises slip at the torque converter clutch.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 2 times.

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Engine Torque Reduction Malfunction

• The TCM receives an invalid signal from the ECM via CAN-Bus.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 4 s .

Engine-Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

• The control unit receives the following signal not or wrong:
  Coolant temperature
• Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 4 s .

Effect:

• The control unit takes 80 °C (176 °F) as replacement value.

Kickdown Switch Circuit Malfunction

• The control unit recognises a kickdown signal if the throttle valve opening is less than 65 % .
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 2 s .

Replacement Value:

• Kickdown function is active on a throttle valve opening greater than 73.5 % .
• Kickdown function is inactive on a throttle valve opening less than 70 % .

Engine Torque Signal Range/Performance

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The torque is limited to 270 Nm .
• The malfunction indication is switched on.
• The TCM receives an invalid signal from the ECM via CAN-Bus.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 4 s .

Engine Torque Request Signal Range/Performance

• The TCM receives an invalid signal from the ECM via CAN-Bus.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 4 s .

Effect:

• The torque is limited to 150 Nm .

SLC1 Circuit Open or Low Input (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 1)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 10, 11 (XC61) ) is too low.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC1 Circuit High Input (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 1)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 10, 11 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC1 Malfunction (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 1)

• Short circuit in wiring harness to control unit terminal TCM: 10, 11 (XC61) .
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 2.75 s .

Effect:

• The "Emergency Mode 1" will be activated.
• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC1 Stuck (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 1)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 10, 11 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC2 Circuit Open or Low Input (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 2)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 17, 18 (XC61) ) is too low.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC2 Stuck (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 2)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 17, 18 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC2 Malfunction (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 2)

• Short circuit in wiring harness to control unit terminal TCM: 17, 18 (XC61) .
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 2.75 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC2 Circuit High Input (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 2)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 17, 18 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC3 Malfunction (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 3)

• Short circuit in wiring harness to control unit terminal TCM: 14, 22 (XC61) .
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 2.75 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC3 Circuit High Input (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 3)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 14, 22 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC3 Circuit Open or Low Input (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 3)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 14, 22 (XC61) ) is too low.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLC3 Stuck (Linear Solenoid Valve - Clutch 3)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 14, 22 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLB1 Circuit Open or Low Input (Linear Solenoid Valve - Brake 1)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 16, 21 (XC61) ) is too low.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLB1 Circuit High Input (Linear Solenoid Valve - Brake 1)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 16, 21 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLB1 Malfunction (Linear Solenoid Valve - Brake 1)

• Short circuit in wiring harness to control unit terminal TCM: 16, 21 (XC61) .
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 2.75 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

SLB1 Stuck (Linear Solenoid Valve - Brake 1)

• The current measured at the control unit output (terminal TCM: 16, 21 (XC61) ) is too high.
• Above condition must be fulfilled for at least 0.5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Gear Ratio Incorrect in D and R Range

• The measured gear ratio deviates more than 4 % from the expected ratio in gear D, R for longer than 5 s .

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.

Shift Lock Solenoid Circuit Open or Low Voltage

• The control unit recognises the malfunction of the circuit via an internal evaluation logic.
  (Short circuit to ground)

Effect:

• The malfunction indication is switched on.
