Driving program (AF40)
Special driving and check programs for:
- Transmission fluid temperature
are established by the Transmission Control Module. They are
dependent on load, engine speed and throttle valve position.
Economy program (6-gear sequence, economical driving)
Switch on:
Automatic after switching on the ignition or when the winter
program is switched off.
Switch off:
Activation of kickdown or when the winter program is switched
on.
Winter program (starting off on slippery surfaces in 3rd
gear)
Switch on:
Pressing winter program button with selector lever in position
"D.
Switch off:
Manually by re-pressing winter program button. Automatically
when the ignition is switched off.
Sport program (6-gear sequence, sportier driving by delaying
shift points)
Automatic switch between Economy and Sport program based on
accelerator pedal movement.
Transmission fluid temperature program
The Transmission Control Module automatically activates the
transmission fluid temperature program when fluid temperature
exceeds 150 °C, at which time engine torque is reduced. The
mode is deactivated once transmission fluid temperature drops below
140 °C.
Downhill program
This program is activated when the throttle valve is closed and
the brakes are operated. The transmission can shift to a lower gear
on its own for engine braking.
Uphill program
TCM detects an uphill incline by comparing theoretical and
actual accelerator pedal position. This prevents continual high and
low shifting and thereby associated speed loss.
Warm-up program
In cold weather, shift points are slightly higher in order for
the engine to reach operating temperature more quickly.
Neutral Control program
In order to reduce fuel consumption and vibrations, clutch C1 is
opened when the vehicle is stationary. This reduces idle speed.
Manual gearchanging (+/-) - Tiptronic mode
In addition to "AT operation", manual gearchanges are also
possible. Manual mode is activated by moving the selector lever
from "D" to the left. The data stored in the control unit for
simulation of gears is now called up and the drive can change gears
as with a standard MT transmission.
- Moving the selector lever toward + shifts to a higher
gear.
- Moving the selector lever toward - shifts to a lower gear.
- The selected gear or mode is indicated in the tachometer
display.
- If the selector lever is actuated when engine speed is too high
or low, the gearchange is not implemented so as to protect the
transmission.
- When engine speed is too high, TCM automatically shifts to the
next higher gear.
- When engine speed is too low, CVTronic automatically simulates
the next lower gear.
Emergency running program
If TCM detects a fault, it activates an emergency running
program. The type of fault determines the type of emergency running
program activated. The emergency running program limits the
function of the transmission in order to protect the mechanics
while at the same time providing the driver maximum operational
availability.
