Charge and bleed hydraulic system

Note:   Do not allow the electro-hydraulic supply unit to run dry.

Drained fluid must not be re-used. The hydraulic system is filled with special fluid

Use a funnel with a flexible pipe to fill the hydraulic system.

The fluid reservoir is integrated in the electro-hydraulic supply unit and is located:

  • on right-hand side of engine compartment between engine and bulkhead (vehicles with LHD), or
  • on left-hand side of engine compartment between transmission and bulkhead (vehicles with RHD).

Fill and bleed the hydraulic system at room temperature. Leave hydraulic systems at operating temperature to cool down to room temperature.

To check the fluid level, the closure cap (1) of the fluid reservoir is locked, then removed again and the level is read off on the dipstick (2).

  Install

1.   Detach closure cap from fluid reservoir
2.   Top up with special oil to the upper marking on the dipstick in the fluid reservoir
Note:   To avoid overfilling, place closure cap with dipstick on reservoir several times and remove to check the level.
3.   Attach closure cap to fluid reservoir
4.   Bleed electro-hydraulic supply unit by starting and stopping the engine three times
Note:   Leave a brief pause before each starting operation
5.   To bleed the hydraulic system, start the engine and turn the steering wheel from the left stop to the right stop three times, while the engine is running.

  Inspect

6.   Switch off engine and check fluid level; if necessary top up to upper marking on oil dipstick.
7.   Check the power steering for correct operation and possible noise factor, by starting the engine and turning the steering wheel from the left stop to the right stop several times.
8.   Check all connection points for the power steering visually for leaks
