Replace steering lock and ignition lock assembly
(Open and Start)
 Remove
| 1. |
Remove airbag unit
Note: The airbag unit
must not be forcibly opened and must always be positioned with the
upholstered side up.
|
| 2. |
Connect the battery and switch on the ignition
|
| 3. |
Lock the steering
| • |
Turn the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position
|
| • |
Allow the steering lock to engage
Note: Switch off the
ignition. Open and close the driver's door. The steering lock and
ignition lock engage automatically
|

| 4. |
Disconnect wiring harness plug (1) for horn/infotainment
|
| 5. |
Detach steering wheel from steering column
| • |
Pull steering wheel from steering spindle
|
|
|
|
| 6. |
Disconnect battery.
Note: Before
disconnecting the battery, the steering wheel lock must be
disengaged.

Disengage the steering wheel lock by briefly pressing the
Start/Stop button
|
| • |
Disconnect battery ground cable
Note: Keep the driver's
door open and the key in the vehicle.

Remove lower steering column panelling
| • |
Unscrew 5x bolt (arrows)
|
| • |
Remove ignition lock rosette (1)
|
|
|
| 8. |
Remove upper steering column panelling
| • |
Unclip panelling from instrument assembly
|
|
|
| 9. |
Remove column integration module (CIM)
| • |
Unclip wiring harness holder (arrow)
|
| • |
Release wiring harness plug (2) and disconnect
|
|
|
|
| 10. |
Remove steering and ignition lock
| • |
Remove earth connection
|
|
|
| 11. |
Remove Open and Start receiver
| • |
Release and remove retaining lug (1)
|
|
|
|
Install
| 12. |
Install Open and Start receiver
|
| 13. |
Install steering and ignition cylinder
| • |
Detach earth connection
|
| • |
Screw in bolt
Note: Fit CIM and align
horizontally.

| 14. |
Install column integration module (CIM)
| • |
Connect wiring harness plug
|
| • |
Clip in wiring harness holder
|
|
| 15. |
Install lower steering column panelling
|
| 16. |
Insert steering wheel in column integration module (CIM)
| • |
The guide pin (1) on the back of the steering wheel must engage
in the carrier (2) on the column integration module (CIM)
Note: The airbag
contact unit must not be twisted.
Note: When removing and
installing, ensure that the markings (arrows) are opposite each
other as shown in the illustration.

| 17. |
Attach steering wheel to steering spindle
Note: Connect the
battery. Switch ignition on and off. Open and close driver's door.
The steering lock and ignition lock engage automatically.

Place steering wheel on steering column
Note: Make sure that
the markings (2) on the steering wheel align with those on the
steering spindle
Note: Guide airbag
wiring harness (1) through opening in steering wheel hub

Tighten bolt 30 Nm
Note: Clean thread and
fit new bolt using locking compound
|

Connect wiring harness plug for horn/infotainment
