DTC Descriptor

DTC P0297 5B: Vehicle Overspeed

Circuit/System Description

The engine control module (ECM) receives the vehicle speed signal via CAN from the electronic brake control module (EBCM).

Conditions for Running the DTC

•  The ignition is ON.
•  The DTCs run continuously once the above condition is met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM detects a vehicle speed above 326 km/h (203 MPH).

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P0297 5B is a Type A DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0297 5B is a Type A DTC.

Powertrain Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Type Definitions

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, verify that no DTC is present in the EBCM.
If any DTC is set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
2. Drive the vehicle, verify the speedometer gauge value matches the ECM scan tool Vehicle Speed Sensor parameter.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Clear the DTCs with a scan tool.
2. Ignition OFF for 30 s.
3. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC.
If DTC resets, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
