DTC P2282
Diagnostic Instructions
DTC Descriptors
DTC P2282 51: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
Performance |
DTC P2282 52: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
Performance |
Circuit/System Description
The mass air flow (MAF) sensor is located in the air intake
duct. The MAF sensor is an airflow meter that measures the amount
of air that enters the engine. The MAF sensor uses a hot film that
is cooled by air flowing past the sensing film as air enters the
engine. The amount of cooling is proportional to the amount of the
air flow. As the air flow increases, greater current is required in
order to maintain the hot film at a constant temperature. The
engine control module (ECM) uses the MAF sensor in order to provide
the correct fuel delivery for all operating conditions.
Conditions for Running the DTC
• |
The DTCs run continuously when
the above conditions are met. |
Conditions for Setting the DTC
P2282 51
The actual mass air flow is below the desired value for greater
than 4 s.
P2282 52
The actual mass air flow is above the desired value for greater
than 4 s.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
DTC P2282 is a Type A DTC.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTC P2282 is a Type A DTC.
Diagnostic Aids
• |
Inspect the harness of the MAF
sensor to verify that it is not routed too close to the following
components: |
• |
Inspect for any contamination,
water intrusion, or debris on the sensing elements of the MAF
sensor. If debris is present, clean the sensor. If the sensor
cannot be cleaned, replace the sensor. |
• |
A high resistance may cause a
driveability concern before this DTC sets. |

Circuit/System Verification
1. |
Engine running for 60 s,
observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTCs P0101, P0102 and
P0103 should not set. |
2. |
Operate the vehicle within the
Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset.
You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you
observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data. |
Circuit/System Testing
1. |
Inspect the intake, and the
exhaust systems, for the following: |
|
• |
Damaged or missing
components |
⇒ |
If a condition is found, repair as necessary. |
2. |
Disconnect the vacuum source
from the Q41 Turbocharger Vane Position Control Solenoid
Valve. |
3. |
Connect the EN
23738-A Mityvac to the Q41 Turbocharger Vane Position
Control Solenoid Valve vacuum supply hose. Engine running, verify
the vacuum is greater than -50 kPa (-7.25 PSI). |
⇒ |
If less than the specified range, inspect the
vacuum supply hose and filter for a leak or restriction. If the
supply hose is normal, replace the vacuum pump. |
4. |
Connect the vacuum source to
the Q41 Turbocharger Vane Position Control Solenoid Valve. Connect
the EN 23738-A Mityvac to the Q41 Turbocharger Vane
Position Control Solenoid Valve vacuum port. Engine running,
command the Turbocharger Vane Position to 5% with a scan tool.
Verify the vacuum is -40 kPa (-5.8 PSI). |
⇒ |
If greater than the specified range, replace the
Q41 Turbocharger Vane Position Control Solenoid Valve. |
5. |
Command the Turbocharger Vane
Position to 95% with a scan tool. Verify the vacuum is greater than
-50 kPa (-7.25 PSI). |
⇒ |
If less than the specified range, replace the Q41
Turbocharger Vane Position Control Solenoid Valve. |
6. |
Inspect the turbocharger oil
supply lines for a restriction. |
⇒ |
If restricted, repair or replace as
necessary. |
7. |
Command the Exhaust Gas
Recirculation (EGR) Valve ON and OFF with a scan tool. Verify the
scan tool MAF Sensor parameter follows the commanded states.
|
⇒ |
If there no change in the parameter reading,
replace the Q14 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve. |
8. |
If all other components test
normal, replace the B75B Mass Air Flow/Intake Air Temperature
Sensor. |
Repair Instructions
Perform the
Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic
procedure.
