Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Cooler Replacement - with Start/Stop System

Removal procedure

  1. Remove the auxiliary water pump outlet hose. Refer to Auxiliary Water Pump Outlet Hose Replacement .
  2. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation pipe. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe Replacement .
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  4. Remove the 2 throttle body support bolts (2).
  5. Remove the throttle body support (1).

  6. Unclip the heater inlet hose (1) from the heater inlet hose clip (4).
  7. Remove the heater inlet hose clamp (2).
  8. Remove the heater inlet hose (1) from the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler (3).
  9. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation valve wiring harness plug.
  10. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation valve actuator wiring harness plug.
  11. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve actuator vacuum hose.

  12. Remove the 3 exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler bolts (3).
  13. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler (2).
  14. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler gasket (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a NEW exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler gasket (1).
  2. Install the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler (2).

    3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the 3 exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler bolts (3) and tighten to  22 N·m (16 lb ft) .

  4. Install the heater inlet hose (1) to the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler (3).
  5. Install the heater inlet hose clamp (2).
  6. Clip in the heater inlet hose (1) to the heater inlet hose clip (4).
  7. Connect the exhaust gas recirculation valve wiring harness plug.
  8. Install the exhaust gas recirculation valve actuator vacuum hose.
  9. Connect the exhaust gas recirculation valve actuator wiring harness plug.

  10. Install the throttle body support (1).
  11. Install the 2 throttle body support bolts (2) and tighten to  9 N·m (80 lb in) .
  12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  13. Install the exhaust gas recirculation pipe. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe Replacement .
  14. Install the auxiliary water pump outlet hose. Refer to Auxiliary Water Pump Outlet Hose Replacement .
  15. After the replacement of the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler, use a scan tool to perform the appropriate reset functions. Refer to Engine Control Module Programming and Setup .
