Circuit/System Description
This diagnostic applies to internal microprocessor integrity
conditions within the engine control module (ECM) and the
throttle actuator control (TAC) system. This diagnostic also
addresses if the ECM is not programmed.
The ECM monitors its ability to read and write to the memory. It
also monitors a timing function. The ECM and the TAC processors are
used to monitor the TAC system data. Both processors monitor the
other processors data to verify that the indicated accelerator
pedal position (APP) calculation is correct. The ECM performs
an intrusive test in order to confirm that the APP signals are not
shorted together. The ECM accomplishes this by pulling the APP
sensor 2 low momentarily and looking for sensor 1 to also
be pulled low.

Circuit/System Testing
- Observe the DTC information with the scan tool. Verify
DTC P0602 00 is not set.
- If DTC P0602 00 is set, attempt to program
the K20 Engine Control Module. Refer to
Control Module References . If DTC P0602 00 resets,
perform the following steps:
• |
Ensure that all tool connections are secure. |
• |
Ensure that the programming equipment is operating
correctly. |
• |
Ensure the correct software and the correct
calibrations are being used. |
⇒ |
If DTC P0602 00 resets, replace the
K20 Engine Control Module. |
- Test the K20 Engine Control Module voltage
circuits at ECM connector X1 terminals 12 and test the
ground circuit at ECM connector X2 terminal 73 for the
following:
⇒ |
If all circuits test normal, replace the
K20 Engine Control Module. |
Repair Instructions
Perform the
Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic
procedure.
