Alternator and Starter Cable Replacement - LBQ, LBR, LBS, LBX without Start/Stop

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .





2. Unlock the retaining tab (1) on the battery fuse box cover.
3. Use a suitable screwdriver (2) to unlock the clip (4) through the window (3).






Note:  Pull the battery fuse box housing. DO NOT pull the flap.

4. Open the battery fuse box cover (1).
5. Remove the battery positive cable to starter nut (2).
6. Remove the battery positive cable to starter (3) from the battery.





7. Remove the battery ground cable nut (1).
8. Remove the negative cable (2).
9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
10. Open the front compartment service opening.





11. Unclip the alternator and starter cable conduit (1) from the bracket (2).





12. Open the 2 wiring harness clips (1) and remove the wiring harness (2) from the clips.





13. Remove the starter ground cable nut (4) and remove the negative cable (1).
14. Remove the starter and alternator positive cable nut (3) and remove the starter and alternator positive cable (2).





15. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (1) from the alternator (2).
16. Remove the alternator positive cable nut (4) and remove the alternator positive cable (3) from the alternator.
17. Lower the vehicle.
18. Remove the alternator and starter cable.

Installation Procedure

1. Install and reposition the alternator and starter cable.





2. Clip the alternator and starter cable conduit (1) into the bracket (2).
3. Raise the vehicle.





4. Connect the wiring harness plug (1) to the alternator (2).
5. Install the alternator positive cable (3) to the alternator.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

6. Install the positive cable nut (4) and tighten to  13 N·m (115 lb in) .





7. Install the starter ground cable (1) to the starter (5).
8. Install the starter ground cable nut (4) and tighten to  17 N·m (13 lb ft) .
9. Install the starter positive cable (2) and tighten the starter positive cable nut (3) to  13 N·m (115 lb in) .
10. Close the front compartment insulator service opening.





11. Reposition the wiring harness (2).
12. Close the 2 wiring harness clips (1).





13. Install the battery negative cable (2).
14. Install the battery ground cable nut (1) and tighten to  9 N·m (80 lb in) .





15. Install the battery positive cable (3) to the battery.
16. Install the battery positive cable nut (2) and tighten to  12 N·m (106 lb in) .





17. Close the battery fuse box cover and lock the retaining tabs (1) and (4).
18. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
