Alternator and Starter Cable Replacement - LSF with Start/Stop System

Removal Procedure

1. Open the bonnet.
2. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .





3. Unlock the retaining tab (1) on the battery fuse box cover.
4. Use a suitable screwdriver (2) to unlock the clip (4) through the window (3).






Note:  Pull the battery fuse box housing. DO NOT pull the flap.

5. Open the battery fuse box cover (1).
6. Remove the battery positive cable to starter nut (2).
7. Remove the battery positive cable to starter (3) from the battery.





8. Remove the battery ground cable nut (1).
9. Remove the battery wiring harness ground cable (2) and the battery negative cable (3).
10. Unclip 1 alternator and starter cable clip from the body, 3 from the transmission and 1 from the auxiliary water pump bracket.
11. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
12. If equipped, remove the engine shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .
13. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve vacuum tank . Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Vacuum Tank Replacement .





14. Remove the alternator and starter cable nut (4) and the alternator and starter cable (1).
15. Remove the ground cable nut (5) and remove the ground cable (6).





16. Remove the positive cable nut (1) and remove the positive cable (2) from the alternator.
17. Remove the alternator and starter cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install and position the alternator and starter cable to the vehicle.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

2. Install the positive cable (2) and remove the positive cable nut (1) to the alternator and tighten to 13 N·m (115 lb in) .





3. Install the ground cable (6) and install the ground cable nut (5) and tighten to 17 N·m (13 lb ft) .
4. Install the alternator and starter cable (1) and the alternator and starter cable nut (4) and tighten to 13 N·m (115 lb in) .
5. Install the exhaust gas recirculation valve vacuum tank. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Vacuum Tank Replacement .
6. If equipped, install the engine shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Clip in 1 alternator and the starter cable clip to the body, 3 to the transmission and 1 to the auxiliary water pump bracket.





9. Install the battery negative cable (3) and the battery wiring harness ground cable (2).
10. Install the battery ground cable nut (1) and tighten to  9 N·m (80 lb in) .





11. Install the battery positive cable (3) to the battery.
12. Install the battery positive cable nut (2) and tighten to  12 N·m (106 lb in) .





13. Close the battery fuse box cover and lock the retaining tabs (1) and (4).
14. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .
15. Close the bonnet.
