Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement (1.7L Diesel LPL, LPV, LUD, LUE, LKR)

Removal Procedure

Warning:  Refer to Exhaust Service Warning .

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .
3. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Cooler Replacement .

4. Remove the 3 exhaust manifold heat shield bolts (2) and the 3 washers.
5. Remove the left exhaust manifold heat shield (1).

6. Remove the 2 exhaust manifold heat shield bolts (2) and the washers.
7. Remove the right exhaust manifold heat shield (1).

Installation Procedure

1. Install the right exhaust manifold heat shield (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .
2. Install the 2 exhaust manifold heat shield bolts (2) and the washers and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in) .

3. Install the left exhaust manifold heat shield (1).
4. Install the 3 exhaust manifold heat shield bolts (2) and the 3 washers and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in) .
5. Install the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Cooler Replacement .
6. Install the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .
7. Close the hood.
