Camshaft Housing Replacement

Special Tools

EN-45059   Torque Angle Sensor

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

Removal Procedure

1. For required parts check which kind of camshaft housing is installed.

Note:  All assembly parts are replaceable.
2. Camshaft housing with plain bearing:
  Camshaft housing with 3 grooves (1) per camshaft.

Note:  Camshaft housing is replaceable along with the assembly parts ONLY.
3. Camshaft housing with 2 needle and 1 bearing:
  Camshaft housing with 5 grooves (2) per camshaft.
4. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
5. Remove the fuel injectors. Refer to Fuel Injector Replacement .
6. Remove the fuel rail. Refer to Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement .
7. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation tube. Refer to Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Replacement .
8. Remove the turbocharger oil feed pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe Replacement .

9. Remove the 2 engine lift bracket bolts (2, 7).
10. Remove the 2 engine lift brackets (3, 6).
11. Remove the bracket (5).
12. Remove the intake manifold bracket bolt (1) and the bracket (4).

13. Remove the wiring harness bracket bolt (2) and the wiring harness bracket (1).

14. Remove the 17 camshaft cover bolts (3).
15. Remove the camshaft cover (2).
16. Remove the camshaft cover gasket (1).

17. Remove the camshaft position sensor bolt (8) and the camshaft position sensor (7).
18. Remove and DISCARD 4 power brake booster pump bolts (4).
19. Remove the power brake booster pump (5) along with power brake booster pump gasket (6).
20. Remove the 3 camshaft rear cover bolts (3).
21. Remove the camshaft rear cover (2) along with camshaft rear cover seal ring (1).

Note:  Check the type of camshaft housing (2).
22. Check the type of camshaft housing (2):
  •  Ball bearing (1)
  •  Intake camshaft (3)
  •  Exhaust camshaft (4)
23. Check the type of camshaft housing (2).
24. For camshaft housing with plain bearing:
  •  Remove the exhaust camshaft. Refer to Exhaust Camshaft Replacement .
  •  Remove the intake camshaft. Refer to Intake Camshaft Replacement .
  •  Clean and inspect the camshafts. Refer to Camshaft Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

1. For camshaft housing with plain bearing:
  •  Install the exhaust camshaft. Refer to Exhaust Camshaft Replacement .
  •  Install the intake camshaft. Refer to Intake Camshaft Replacement .

2. Install the camshaft rear cover (2) along with a NEW camshaft rear cover seal ring (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .
3. Install the 3 camshaft rear cover bolts (3) and tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in) .
4. Install the power brake booster pump (5) along with a NEW power brake booster pump gasket (6).
5. Install 4 NEW power brake booster pump bolts (4) and tighten in two passes:
  •  First pass to 5 N·m (44 lb in) .
  •  Second pass to an additional 50° , using the EN-45059   angle meter .
6. Install the camshaft position sensor (7).
7. Install the camshaft position sensor bolt (8) and tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in) .

8. Install the NEW camshaft cover gasket (1).
9. Install the camshaft cover (2).
10. Install the 17 camshaft cover bolts (3) and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) .

11. Install the wiring harness bracket (1) and the wiring harness bracket bolt (2) and tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in) .

12. Install the intake manifold bracket (4).
13. Install the intake manifold bracket bolt (1) and tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in) .
14. Install the bracket (5).
15. Install the 2 engine lift brackets (3, 6).
16. Install the 2 engine lift bracket bolts (2, 7) and tighten to 50 N·m (37 lb ft) .
17. Install the turbocharger oil feed pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe Replacement .
18. Install the positive crankcase ventilation tube. Refer to Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Replacement .
19. Install the fuel rail. Refer to Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement .
20. Install the fuel injectors. Refer to Fuel Injector Replacement .
21. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
