Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

Special Tools

EN-49377   Retainer

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Open the front compartment insulator service opening.
3. Remove the oil pan deadener. Refer to Oil Pan Deadener Replacement .

4. Place a drain pan under the oil drain screw.
5. Remove the oil drain screw (2) and the seal ring (1).
6. DISCARD the seal ring (1)
7. Allow the oil to drain completely.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .

8. Install the oil pan drain screw along with a NEW seal ring and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft) .

9. Install the EN-49377   retainer (2) below the engine oil filter housing (1) and oil filter cap.
10. Place a suitable container below the EN-49377   retainer (2).

Note:  Do NOT use an open end wrench on the hex on top of the oil filter cap.
11. Remove the oil filter cap (2) along with the oil filter element (1) and the oil filter cap seal ring.
12. Unclip the oil filter element (1) from the oil filter cap (2).
13. DISCARD the oil filter cap seal ring.

Installation Procedure

1. Install a NEW oil filter cap seal ring (1) to the shown groove (arrow).
2. Lubricate the oil filter cap threads (2) and the oil filter cap seal ring with clean engine oil.

3. Clip the NEW oil filter element (1) to the oil filter cap (2).

Note:  DO NOT use an open end wrench on the hex on top of the oil filter cap.
4. Install the oil filter cap (2) along with the oil filter element and the NEW oil filter cap seal ring and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) .

5. Remove the EN-49377   retainer (2) from the engine oil filter housing (1).
6. Close the front compartment insulator service opening.
7. Install the oil pan deadener. Refer to Oil Pan Deadener Replacement .
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Fill the engine with oil. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
