Circuit/System Description
The tour mode switch and the tour mode light emitting diode
(LED) are combined into one switch module. The body control module
(BCM) monitors the status of the tour mode switch. When the tour
mode switch is pressed, the BCM will request the suspension control
module, transmission control module (TCM) and engine control module
(ECM) via serial data to control the vehicle ride characteristic
according to the selected mode. The BCM will command the tour mode
LED ON to notify the driver of the selected mode.

Circuit/System Verification
1. |
Verify no communication
related DTC is set. |
⇒ |
If any communication DTC is set, diagnose those
first. |
2. |
Ignition ON, observe the scan
tool Suspension System Mode parameter while pressing and releasing
one after the other S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 - Instrument
Panel, Sport Mode and Tour Mode. Verify the reading changes between
Comfort and Sport Mode. |
⇒ |
If the parameter does not change between the
specified values, go to circuit/system testing. |
3. |
Observe the tour mode LED
while pressing and releasing the S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 -
Instrument Panel Tour Mode. The tour mode LED should turn ON and
OFF. |
⇒ |
If the LED does not change between the specified
values, go to circuit/system testing. |
Circuit/System Testing
Static Test
|
Note: Circuit/system
verification must be performed before circuit/system testing.
|
1. |
Ignition OFF, disconnect the
X5 harness connector at the K9 Body Control Module. |
2. |
Ignition ON, verify the tour
mode LED is OFF. |
⇒ |
If the sport mode LED does not turn OFF, test the
control circuit for a short to voltage. |
3. |
If all circuits test normal,
test or replace the S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 - Instrument Panel
Tour Mode. |
Dynamic Test
|
Note: Circuit/system
verification must be performed before circuit/system testing.
|
1. |
Ignition OFF, disconnect the
S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 - Instrument Panel harness
connector. |
2. |
Test for less than 5 Ω
between tour mode switch ground circuit terminal 1 and
ground. |
⇒ |
If not within the specified value, test the wiring
harness for an open/high resistance. |
3. |
Ignition OFF, test for more
than 11 V between the control circuit terminal 3 and ground.
|
⇒ |
If less than the specified range, test the control
circuit for short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the
circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module. |
4. |
Install a 3 A fused jumper
wire to the control circuit terminal 3. |
5. |
Ignition ON, observe the scan
tool Suspension System Mode parameter while momentarily toggling
the fused jumper wire to ground. Verify the reading changes between
Comfort and Sport Mode. |
⇒ |
If the parameter does not change between the
specified values, replace the K9 Body Control Module. |
6. |
Ignition ON, test for more
than 11 V between the 12V reference circuit terminal 6 and
ground. |
⇒ |
If less than the specified range, test the signal
circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the
circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module. |
7. |
If the circuit test normal,
test or replace the S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 - Instrument Panel
Tour Mode. |
Component Testing
Indicator Test
1. |
Install a 10 A fused jumper
between the tour mode switch terminal 6 and 12 V. Install a jumper
wire between the tour mode switch terminal 1 and ground. The
indicator LED should illuminate. |
⇒ |
If the tour mode switch indicator does not
illuminate, replace the S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 - Instrument
Panel Tour Mode. |
2. |
Test for infinite resistance
between the tour mode switch terminal 3 and terminal 1.
|
⇒ |
If not within the specified range, replace the
S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 - Instrument Panel Tour Mode. |
3. |
Test for less than 5 Ω
between the tour mode switch terminal 3 and terminal 1 while
pressing the S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 - Instrument Panel Tour
Mode. |
⇒ |
If not within the specified range, replace the
S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 - Instrument Panel Tour Mode. |
