Tie Rod, Replace One

 

Remove air cleaner from engine.

 

 

Remove

 

Unscrew bolt for tie rod clamp flange.

 

Unbolt tie rod from steering gear.

Loosen bolt for opposite tie rod.

 

Unscrew tie rod from adjustment pin thread and replace together with damping bushing.

 

 

Install

 

Screw new tie rod on to adjustment pin.

 

Note left and right versions of tie rods (Clamp bolt is inserted from underneath - Illus. B 9617).

Screw in to same depth as tie rod end.

 

Fasten both tie rods to steering gear and secure - observe prescribed torque.

Always use new spreading clamp to fasten lock plate.

 

Adjust toe-out (see operation in group E).

 

Note:

When replacing both tie rods, always pay attention to left and right hand versions of tie rods (clamp bolt is always inserted from underneath).
