Two-colour paint on plastic surfaces

Modern vehicles have high requirements in terms of design and colour. Painted plastic moulded parts are being increasingly used which meet these high requirements. To highlight or emphasise various design details on the vehicle, the two-colour painting stylistic element is used.

However, for service operations, this means that procedures have to be changed when repairing these parts. By way of example, here is a chronological procedure for two-colour painting of primed and grained new plastic parts, in this case the front panelling of the Corsa-C Blue and Silver (see also corresponding section in this publication).

Procedure for two-colour painting on plastic surfaces:

1. Mask off the surface in the area of the trim strips / radiator grille (1)
2. Clean the surface
3. Rub down the surface
4. Apply adhesion promoter
5. Apply the Silver base paint (3) and (4)
6. Cover the "silver" areas (3) and (4)
7. Apply the Ultra Blue base paint (2)
8. Spray on the clear lacquer coat
