Airbag Unit, Driver's Side, Remove and Install

  Remove

1.   Disconnect battery
Note:   Wait for 1 minute until capacitor has discharged
2.   Detach airbag unit
•   Unscrew 2x bolt (arrows)
3.   Lift airbag unit carefully with MKM-604-29
•   Unlatch and disconnect airbag wiring harness plug
•   Remove airbag unit

Important:   Always set aside airbag unit with padded side upwards.

  Install

Important:   From the beginning of Model Year 2001, vehicles with Rework Action 00-R-41 have been repaired. For affected vehicles with this contact unit, the cables must be provided with insulation tape (illustration, lower arrow).

6.   Install airbag unit
•   Connect and latch wiring harness plug
•   Insert airbag unit
– Tighten 2x bolts 8 Nm
7.   Connect battery
8.   Program volatile memories
