The maximum angle of lock (3) is the angle which the wheels
adopt at the full steering angle (left and right) relative to the
axis of symmetry (2). This determines the vehicle's turning
circle.
The maximum angle of lock behaves like the toe variation angle
and also provides information on the status of the steering trapeze
and steering mechanism.
As the adjustment of maximum angle of lock is usually only
possible with off-road vehicles, this should only be checked in
this type of vehicle.
The maximum angle of lock is measured with the relevant internal
cornering wheel fully locked (3). Depending upon the steering
trapezium, the external cornering wheel (1) must have the same
negative difference, within a specified tolerance.
