Brake System, Bleed and Check for Leaks – Checking and Adjusting Operations

Important:   In order to ensure that the brake system is fully bled, the operating over-pressure of the bleeder unit must be set to 1 bar

Note:   Only use DOT 4 brake fluid. As of model year 2002, use DOT 4+ brake fluid.

  Remove

1.   Brake System, Bleed
•   Detach seal (1) for plenum chamber as far as necessary.
•   Fold up cover (2)
•   Unscrew closure cap (3) of brake fluid reservoir
•   Connect brake bleeder unit (5) to adapter (4) on brake fluid reservoir
Note:   Put brake system under pressure ( 1 bar ) - comply with manufacturer's instructions.
•   Bleed according to bleeding procedure
Procedure for bleeding:
1. left front
2. right front
3. Left, rear
4. Right, rear

6.   Brake System, Check for Leaks
•   Build up pressure by depressing the brake pedal several times
•   Support Brake Pedal Tensioner KM-325-A (1) on the face surfaces of the seat rails of the driver's seat and put the brake pedal under tension
•   Monitor leakage of brake system on pressure drop display (arrow) of KM-325-A
Note:   Duration of test approx. 10 minutes. If the brake system is not leaking, the pressure built up will not change.
Note:   If a brake pedal tensioner without pressure drop display is used, the Pressure Gauge MKM-558-A must also be used.
7.   Remove Brake Pedal Tensioner KM-325-A (1)
8.   Close closure cap (3)
•   Place seal (2) on plenum chamber
