Brake Calliper – Rear Wheel Brake, Remove and Install

  Remove

1.   Release parking brake lever
•   Detach seal (1) for plenum chamber as far as necessary.
•   Raise covering flap (2) for brake master cylinder
2.   Remove closure cap (3)
•   Seal brake fluid reservoir with MKM-558-10
3.   Detach rear wheel...
•   Mark position in relation to centre of wheel
•   Unclip ABS wiring harness from brake hose (arrows).
4.   Detach rear brake line (5) from rear brake hose
Note:   Retaining plate (4) remains on brake line.

5.   Detach rear brake hose (1) from brake calliper
Note:   Collect escaping brake fluid and close outlet.
6.   Detach parking brake cable (2) from lever for parking brake
7.   Remove retaining plate (3) for parking brake cable on counterhold
•   Remove parking brake cable from counterhold
8.   Fastening bolt for brake calliper guide pin (4) on retaining frame
•   Detach brake calliper and remove brake calliper (5)
•   Counterhold on hexagonal section of guide pin (arrows) with open-ended wrench
Note:   With a leak in the brake calliper, damage to the sealing sleeve of the piston or other components: Replace brake calliper.

  Install

9.   Insert brake calliper (2) over brake linings
•   Attach to retaining frame with new fastening bolts (1) for brake calliper - guide pin, tightening torque 45 Nm
•   Counterhold on hexagonal section of guide pin (arrows) with open-ended wrench
Note:   In doing so, ensure that the piston is located with a recess aligned with the inspection aperture of the brake calliper. (Arrows see illustration). Illustration shows already completed installation.
Note:   If necessary, twist piston of brake calliper with into correct position KM-6007 (3) and KM-6007-10 (4).

10.   Connect rear brake hose (1) to brake calliper - tightening torque 16 Nm .
11.   Insert rear brake hose into bracket and
•   attach rear brake line (3) to brake hose with retaining plate (2) - tightening torque 16 Nm
Note:   Ensure the brake hose is laid so that it cannot twist.
12.   Clip ABS wiring harness to brake hose (arrows)
13.   Insert parking brake cable (4) into counterhold on brake calliper
•   Attach lever for parking brake (5) to brake calliper
•   Attach retaining plate (6) to parking brake cable
14.   Fit rear wheel - tightening torque 110 Nm .
15.   Remove KM-558-10 from brake fluid reservoir

16.   Bleed brake system and check for leaks LUREF_1.gif
17.   Lower closure cap of brake master cylinder
18.   Place seal on plenum chamber.
