Wheel Brake Cylinder, Remove and Install > < Removing and installing drum hub, models F 08, F 08 & W5L and F 68

Brake Shoes – Rear Wheel Brake, Remove and Install

  Remove

1.   Detach rear wheel
•   Mark position in respect of drum hub/brake drum
2.   Remove both drum hubs
  • For Model F 08 F 08 & W5L, F 68 LUREF_1.gif
  • For model F 06, F 25
3.   Remove brake shoes
•   Unhook upper withdrawing spring (4) with brake spring pliers
•   Remove retaining clamp (2)
•   Unhook adjusting lever (3) with spring (1)
•   Pull brake shoes apart slightly, remove adjusting unit (5) with thermoclip
•   Twist plate of compression spring (6) on both sides with KM-346 (7) until the springs have unlocked
•   Remove front brake shoe (8) and unhook spring (9)
•   Unhook rear brake shoe (10) from parking brake cable (11) and remove

4.   Clean brake anchor plate and coat both sides with anti-squeak compound on both sides of the mating surfaces of the brake shoes in the area of the arrows
5.   Clean drum hub/brake drum

6.   Check wheel brake cylinder for leaks, replace if necessary LUREF_1.gif
7.   Check springs and fastenings for damage, replace if necessary
8.   Check brake shoes for cracks, oil and wear, if necessary replace brake shoes.
9.   Check drum hub/brake drum for cracks and on the contact face of the brake shoes for scoring – replace if necessary.

  Install

10.   Before installing brake shoes, ensure that parking brake cable (1) is in brake anchor plate guide (2).
11.   Insert rear brake shoe (3) in parking brake cable
•   Fit retaining pin, compression spring and plate with KM-346
•   Hook in retaining spring (4) and place front brake shoe on guide (5)
•   Concertina star wheel (7)
Coat thread with silicone grease
Note:   Star wheel must not stick at the end of the adjustment unit
•   Insert adjusting unit with thermoclip
Note:   Ensure correct installation position (arrow)
•   Fit retaining pin, compression spring and plate for front brake shoe
Note:   Ensure the plate spring (6) is fitted before fitting the adjusting lever.
Note:   Fit new spring washer when installing new brake shoes.

12.   Fit adjusting lever (1) with spring (3)
•   Insert retaining clamp (4) and attach upper return spring (2) with brake spring pliers
13.   Install drum hub/brake drum - see operation "Drum Hub, Remove and Install" or "Brake Drum, Remove and Install" in this group.
  • For Model F 08 F 08 & W5L, F 68 LUREF_1.gif
  • For model F 06, F25
14.   Fit rear wheel - tightening torque 110 Nm

15.   Adjust drum brake and parking brake
  • Adjust rear wheel brake
  • Parking Brake, Adjust
