Cooling System, Top Up And Bleed (Z 17 DTH, With Air Conditioning, LHD)

  Inspect

1.   Only use 19 40 650 / 9194431 anti-freeze (red) and ensure a concentration of 50% water and 50% anti-freeze. The purpose of anti-freeze is not only to protect the entire cooling system against freezing but also to protect all coolant-affected parts against corrosion and lime deposit. For this reason, anti-freeze must be used even in tropical regions.
2.   The water quality also plays an important role in addition to the mix ratio. Water of drinkable quality usually meets these requirements. The quality of purified sea water is inadequate!
3.   Damage may also be caused to the engine if unauthorised anti-freeze agent is used!
4.   If radiator, cylinder head or cylinder head seal have been replaced the old coolant must not be re-used.
Important:   Vehicle with air conditioning: switch air conditioning off and set to ECO mode if vehicle has ECC
5.   Open cooling system
Warning:   Cooling system is pressurised
•   Unscrew coolant compensation tank cover
6.   Top up coolant to lower degassing line (1) at coolant compensation tank
7.   Close cooling system
•   Screw in coolant compensation tank cover
8.   Start engine and allow to warm up
•   Allow engine to warm up at idle speed of up to 2500 rpm until radiator fan setting 1 is enabled
9.   Bleed cooling system
•   Allow engine to run at 2000 to 2500 rpm for approx. 2 minutes
Note:   The air is removed from the cooling system via the degassing lines
10.   Turn off engine and allow to cool
11.   Check coolant level and top up to "KALT/COLD" mark with coolant if necessary
