Procedure

Lightly lubricate valve stem. Apply fine-grained grinding paste to valve head.

Insert valve in valve guide. Turn valve evenly while lifting valve grinder with valve rhythmically from seat until the grinding paste is evenly distributed.

  Inspect

Remove valve from cylinder head. Clean valve seat and check contact pattern on valve head and cylinder head. The grinding procedure is concluded when the seat surfaces are of a uniformly matt colouring.

The bearing surface can be checked by marking the valve cone with chalk lines. Insert the valve in the valve guide and turn back and forth. The chalk marking must smudge evenly.

  Clean

Carefully remove remnants of grinding paste from valves, valve guides and cylinder head.

  Inspect

Check the installation height (1) of the valves after grinding.
