Removing and installing manual transmission (MTA) from engine (Z 12 XE, Z 12 XEP, Z 14 XEP, with air conditioning system, LHD)

Note:   Engine and transmission removed - see operation "J 340100 Removing and installing engine" in group "J".

  Remove

1.   Lift drive unit
•   Detach KM-2358
•   Suspend from workshop crane
•   Fasten axle shafts
•   Remove rear reaction member
– Remove bolt (arrow)
•   Lift from KM-6168

2.   Remove axle shafts with KM-313 and KM-902
•   Place collecting basin underneath.
•   Detach axle shafts
•   Seal openings

3.   Release transmission
•   Oil pan
– Unscrew 3 bolts (2)
•   Crankshaft bearing bridge
– Unscrew 2 bolts (1)
•   Cylinder Block
– Unscrew 3 bolts (3)
– Disconnect wiring harness connector.
– Remove (4) bolts
4.   Lift transmission
Note:   Second person required
•   Lower engine
•   Remove bolt (4)
•   Detach ground cable

  Install

5.   Position transmission
Note:   Second person required
•   Bolt in bolt
•   Lift engine
6.   Secure transmission
•   To cylinder block, crankshaft bearing bridge
– Position ground cable and wiring harness bracket
– Tighten 5 bolts 60 Nm
•   To oil pan
– Tighten 3 bolts 40 Nm
7.   Replace 2x retaining ring
8.   Install axle shafts
•   Drive in at friction-welded seam until retaining rings engage
•   Fasten axle shafts
9.   Position drive unit
Note:   Second person required
•   Position on KM-6168
Note:   Note contact points
•   Detach from workshop crane
•   Attach rear reaction member
– Tighten bolt 80 Nm
•   Remove KM-2358
•   Detach axle shafts
10.   Top up transmission fluid
•   Observe prescribed transmission fluid quantity
