Remove and install oil pan (Z 12 XE, Z 12 XEP, Z 14 XEP, with air conditioning, LHD) > < Removing and installing oil filter housing (Z 12 XE, Z 14 XEP up to MY 2004)

Removing and installing oil pump pressure control valve (Z 12 XE, Z 12 XEP, Z 14 XEP, with air conditioning, LHD)

  Remove

1.   Open bonnet
2.   Raise vehicle
3.   Remove ribbed V-belt cover
•   Unscrew 3 bolts (1)
•   Remove clip (arrow)
4.   Drain engine oil
•   Place collecting basin underneath.
•   Remove drain bolt

5.   Loosen exhaust system
Note:   When removing the centre muffler, a catalytic converter, an exhaust manifold, or an exhaust manifold with catalytic converter, secure that portion of the exhaust system remaining on the vehicle against uncontrolled suspension.
•   For this purpose, the exhaust system portion including the flexpipe may be fastened to the vehicle underbody using suitable means, e.g. wire.
Note:   Angular dislocations of the flexpipe as small as 5 to 10 degrees offset from the intended installation position can already cause damage and subsequent complete failure of the flexpipe.
•   Detach oxygen sensor (catalytic converter control) cable harness plug (1)
•   Detach exhaust system
2 damper rings
•   Remove front exhaust pipe
Unscrew 3 nuts
•   Suspend front exhaust pipe from left front axle body

6.   Install engine oil drain bolt
•   Replace seal ring
•   Tighten bolt 10 Nm
7.   Remove oil pan
•   Transmission
Unscrew 3 bolts (1)
•   Crankshaft bearing bridge
Unscrew 16 bolts

8.   Remove oil pump pressure regulating valve
•   Remove bolt (1)
•   Remove seal ring (2), bolt (3), spring (4) and piston (5)

  Install

9.   Clean sealing surfaces
•   Crankshaft bearing bridge, oil pan, timing case
10.   Inspect components
Note:   Check for trapping
•   Oil pump pressure regulating valve
Pistons, springs, pins
11.   Note the different versions when replacing components! Be sure to use the correct part and catalogue number!
12.   Install oil pump pressure regulating valve
•   Replace seal ring
•   Insert pistons, springs, pins
Coat with engine oil
•   Tighten bolt 50 Nm
13.   Attach oil pan
•   Replace gasket
•   Screw in 19 bolts
Note:   Note tightening sequence.
•   On crankshaft bearing bridge
Tighten 16 bolts 10 Nm
•   On transmission
Tighten 3 bolts 40 Nm
14.   Attach exhaust system
•   Replace gasket
•   Replace nuts
•   Tighten 3 nuts 20 Nm
•   Install damping rings
•   Connect oxygen sensor (catalytic converter control) wiring harness plug.
15.   Install ribbed V-belt cover
•   Tighten bolts
•   Install clip
16.   Lower vehicle
17.   Top up engine oil
•   Start engine and allow to run until oil pressure telltale extinguishes.
•   Check engine oil level, if necessary correct.
18.   Close bonnet
