J 712100 Alternator Support, Replace (Y 17 DTL, with AC, LHD)

1. Open bonnet 2. Drain air conditioning Note! Drain air conditioning – see operation "Air Conditioning, Drain " in group "D" Caution! On vehicles from model year 04 with ESP - the steering angle sensor loses its basic adjustment each time the battery is disconnected. It must be recalibrated. 3. Disconnect battery Detach ground cable 4. Remove air cleaner housing (1) Disconnect wiring harness plug for hot film mass air flow meter (3) Release in direction of arrow Remove air intake hose (4) Loosen clamp (5) Remove bolt (2)

5. Unclip brake servo vacuum line

• 5 brackets
• Set to one side

6. Raise vehicle 7. Detach ribbed V-belt cover Remove 3 bolts (1) Remove clip (arrow).

8. Remove ribbed V-belt Tension ribbed V-belt tensioner in direction of arrow Using KM-913-A at fastening bolt (1) Note! Mark running direction

9. Detach vacuum hose for vacuum pump (3) 10. Detach alternator wiring harness Disconnect wiring harness plug (1) Unscrew nut (2) 11. Remove vacuum pump oil feed line Place collecting basin underneath. Unscrew banjo bolt (4)

12. Detach vacuum pump oil return hose

13. Remove AC line (2) Unclip wiring harness Disconnect pressure switch wiring harness plug (1) Remove bolt (3) Set line to one side

14. Remove alternator Unscrew bolt, nut (1) Remove brake servo vacuum line Unscrew nut

15. Remove alternator support Remove 4 bolts (arrows)

16. Detach attaching parts

• Ribbed V-belt guide roller, ribbed V-belt tensioner, alternator wiring harness bracket
• Remove 3 bolts

17. Attach attaching parts

• Alternator wiring harness bracket
• Tighten bolt
• Ribbed V-belt tensioner
• Tighten bolt (50 Nm / 37 lbf. ft.)
• Ribbed V-belt guide roller
• Tighten bolt (38.2 Nm / 28.2 lbf. ft.)

18. Install alternator support

• Tighten bolts
• M14 (67.6 Nm / 50 lbf. ft.)
• M10 (48 Nm / 35.5 lbf. ft.)

19. Install alternator

• Attach brake servo vacuum line
• Tighten nut (18 Nm / 13.3 lbf. ft)
• Tighten bolts
• M10 (46.1 Nm / 34 lbf. ft.)
• M8 (18.6 Nm / 13.7 lbf. ft.)

20. Attach AC line

• Renew seal rings
• Tighten bolt (20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.)
• Connect pressure switch wiring harness plug
• Attach wiring harness

21. Install alternator wiring harness

• Connect wiring harness plug.
• Tighten nuts

22. Connect vacuum hose for vacuum pump

23. Attach vacuum pump oil feed line

• Renew seal rings
• Tighten banjo bolt (21.6 Nm/15.9 lbf. ft.)

24. Install vacuum pump oil return hose

25. Install ribbed V-belt

• Note! Observe running direction and installation position
• Release ribbed V-belt tensioner
• With KM-913-A

26. Attach ribbed V-belt cover

• Screw in bolts
• Install clip

27. Lower vehicle

28. Clip in brake servo vacuum line

29. Install air cleaner housing

• Tighten bolt
• Fasten air intake hose.
• Tighten clamp (3.5 Nm / 2.6 lbf. ft.)
• Connect wiring harness plug to hot film mass air flow meter

30. Connect battery

31. Calibrate steering angle sensor

• Switch on ignition

Note:   Rotate the steering wheel one time from its right-hand to its left-hand stop.

32. Check and correct engine oil level

• Observe specified engine oil quantity

33. Program volatile memories

34. Charge air conditioning

• Note! Charge air conditioning – see operation "Evacuate and charge air conditioning" in group "D".

35. Close bonnet
