Outer Races of Tapered Roller Bearing, Remove and Install (F13/ F13 MTA) > < Remove and install manual transmission (F13 MTA/F17+ MTA)

Overhaul differential gear (F13/F13 MTA)

Note:   Transmission remains installed.

  Remove

Object Number: 2414102  Size: DEFAULT

1.   Remove axle shafts (1)
2.   Remove end shield cover (2)
3.   Remove end shield (3) from transmission housing LUREF_1.gif
4.   Remove differential (4)

5.   Remove seal ring from bearing ring (3) and transmission with KM-454-2 (1) and KM-454-4 (2)
6.   Remove tapered roller bearing outer race from bearing ring
Note:   Only necessary when replacing bearing in bearing ring.
•   remove with KM-304 (4) and KM-451 (5)
•   Place KM-303 (6) underneath
7.   Remove tapered roller bearing outer race from transmission with KM-305 and KM-451
Note:   If the transmission has been removed, use KM-304 and KM-451 .

Important:   Do not interchange outer and inner races respectively when re-using tapered roller bearings.
8.   Remove both tapered roller bearing inner races (1)
Note:   Only necessary when replacing.
•   Pull off with KM-161-B (2), KM-161-3 (4) and KM-161-4 (3)
Note:   For overhaul operations, the speedometer gear (driving) (5) is destroyed, if still present. On assembling, it is not reinstalled.
9.   Detach drive gear from differential housing
•   Clamp differential housing in a vice with protective jaws

Important:   Replace drive gears (1) only in pairs (driving and driven). Note identification groove (arrows) running around tip of tooth.
10.   Remove bevel gear axis
•   Remove retaining rings (2) from bevel gear axis
Note:   Only necessary when replacing.
11.   Remove thrust washers
•   Unscrew axle shaft and differential bevel gears with KM-458-A

  Install

12.   Clean all removed parts and transmission housing
13.   Check removed parts for wear and damage
•   Replace if necessary
•   Lubricate bearing, running, seating, and pressure surfaces of rotating parts with transmission fluid

14.   Insert/screw in axle drive and differential bevel gears into differential housing (1)
15.   Clamp differential housing into vice with KM-458-A (3)
•   Use protective jaws
16.   Centre differential pinions with KM-456 (2)
17.   Install bevel gear axis (6)
•   Secure with new retaining rings (4) and (5)

18.   Attach ring gear (1) to differential housing
•   Tighten with new bolts 40 Nm + 30° + 15°
Note:   Replace drive gears only in pairs (driving and driven). Note identification groove (arrows) running around tip of tooth.
19.   Press inner races of tapered roller bearings (3) onto differential housing (4) using KM-453 (2)
20.   Install respective tapered roller bearing outer race in transmission or bearing ring with KM-304 and KM-451
•   Gently knock tapered roller bearing outer race into housing

21.   Install tapered roller bearing outer race (2) into transmission and/or bearing ring with KM-304 (1) and KM-451 (3)
22.   Drive in new axle shaft seal ring with KM-446
23.   Install differential (4)
24.   Install end shield (3)
25.   Install end shield cover (6)
26.   Install axle shafts
