Tie Rod, Remove and Install
Important:
Different tie rods are used depending on vehicle version and
steering ratio.
Note: When replacing,
see technical data for "Steering Gear" in this group.
Remove

Remove tie rod (1)

Detach tie rod with KM-6247 (4) from
steering rack
Note: Using an
open-ended wrench (2), counterhold against flattened area of
steering gear (3). Unscrew tie rod with KM-6247 (4)
Note: To provide a
clearer illustration, the central view in the graphics shows the
tie rod removed.

Re-cut the tread in the axial joint of the tie rod. Clean the
thread in the axial joint of the tie rod and the thread of the
rack.

Install
5. |
Install tie rod
• |
Wet thread on steering rack with locking compound
|
• |
Tighten tie rod on rack with KM-6247
70 Nm
Note: Counterhold with
open-ended wrench against flattened area of steering gear
|

6. |
Install cover ring
• |
Clip in covering ring (1) on wrench surface of the axial
joint
Note: The cover ring
must audibly engage on the axial joint.

9. |
Check toe-in
• |
Adjust if necessary, see special brochure "Chassis Adjustment
Values" for the corresponding model year
