Battery Diagnosis

Battery Test

Important:   In general, the safety stipulations for the electrics/electronics should be observed for vehicle batteries LUREF_1.gif .

The battery tester KM-J-42000-EU-B was introduced as dealer's equipment as of model year 2010. It permits reliable and fast definition of the current condition of the battery. This is important both for diagnosis on batteries in the vehicle and also for stored batteries. When carrying out diagnosis on installed batteries it is not necessary to remove or disconnect the battery when using this tester. After performing the test, the battery states the result for the condition of the battery as plain text. Issuing a test code is additional and serves to summarise the results for warranty claims. In a warranty situation, the test code issued must be entered by hand on the warranty claim. The safety regulations must be observed in charging procedures arising as a consequence of the test. The battery must be disconnected for charging.

Note:   Do not carry out the battery test directly after charging. You should leave 12-24 hours between charging and battery testing, or consumers (headlamps, rear screen heating) should be switched on for approx. 3 minutes. The battery test can then be carried out.

Note:   A battery that has been charged with a low voltage (<= 14,9 V ) may be been found to be "good" by the tester although the battery eye remains black due to "acid layering". These batteries must not be replaced, since the battery eye will turn green whilst driving due to electrolyte mixing.

Mounting

Note:   Batteries which have been stored for any length of time must be charged approx. every 6 months. In the case of laid-up vehicles, the ground cable must be disconnected from the battery and the battery charge topped up every 6 months. When stored batteries are used, the batteries which have been in storage the longest must be used first.
