Check con-rod bearing clearance (use micrometer
and internal measuring device)
Note: Con-rod and
crankshaft are removed.
Measure
Important: Measurement without
bearing shells.
1. |
Attach con-rod bearing cap without con-rod bearing shell to
con-rod
Note: When undertaking
the measurement it is not necessary to replace the bolts.
• |
Tighten 2x new bolt 20 Nm +
40°
2. |
The average con-rod bearing diameter is measured using an
internal measuring device at points I, II and III and then averaged
by calculation.
3. |
Formula for calculating the average con-rod bearing
diameter:
Example:
I
45.734 mm
II
45.738 mm

45.739 mm
4. |
The average con-rod bearing diameter is 45.739 mm .
5. |
The con-rod bearing journal diameter is calculated using the
measurements from points I and II (as measured with a micrometer
gauge)

6. |
Formula for calculating the average con-rod bearing journal
diameter:
Example:

7. |
The average con-rod bearing journal diameter is 42.595 mm .
8. |
Con-rod bearing clearance is calculated using con-rod big-end
bore diameter, con-rod bearing journal diameter and con-rod bearing
shell thickness
Example:
