Engine, Check for Leaks, (CO Content in Cooling
System)
Note: Engine at
operating temperature (oil temperature >= 80 °C).
Remove
Warning: Cooling system is under
pressure.

Detach coolant expansion tank closure cap

Slowly open closure cap and carefully release pressure
|

Check coolant level
• |
Top up coolant to COLD mark (arrow) if necessary
|

Attach tester (1) to coolant expansion tank
Note: Pay attention to
manufacturer-specific regulations.

6. |
Test engine for leaks
Note: The transparent
cylinder of the tester contain a blue reactive fluid that turns
yellow if air is drawn in that contains the slightest traces of
carbon monoxide. When fresh air is drawn in the test fluid is
regenerated, i.e. it turns blue again.

The air is drawn out of the coolant expansion tank by the
operation of the rubber boot
Note: No coolant must
be drawn in.

If the blue liquid in the top chamber of the tester turns
yellow, the cylinder head gasket or the cylinder head is
leaking

Testing the tester
• |
The liquid can be tested by drawing in the exhaust from the
exhaust pipe

In this case the test liquid must turn yellow
|

Detach tester
Warning: Cooling system is under
pressure
|

Carefully release the pressure
|
|
Install

Attach coolant expansion tank closure cap
|
|
