Transmission Oil|Specifications > < Transmission Fluid Level, Check (M20/M32)

Check and correct transmission fluid level (M20 MTA)

Important:   The fluid check bolt at the front of the transmission may not be opened.

Note:   The transmission fluid drained out during the pre-delivery inspection may be re-used. New transmission fluid must be used during servicing work.


The transmission fluid must be brought up to operating temperature before draining.

  Remove

1.   Remove lower engine compartment cover
Note:   If present.

2.   Drain off transmission fluid
•   Place collecting basin underneath.
•   Unscrew oil drain bolt (2)
Note:   Checking bolt (1) may not be opened.
•   Allow transmission fluid to drain out for approx. 10 minutes

  Install

3.   Tighten transmission fluid drain bolt 20 Nm
•   Use new bolt
4.   Remove battery tray

5.   Unscrew fluid filling bolt (1)
6.   Top up with transmission fluid
Note:   A residue of approx. 0.2 litres remains in the gearbox.
•   Add 1.7 litres transmission fluid
Note:   If a new gearbox is installed during servicing, this must be filled with 1.2 litres of transmission fluid because the new gearboxes are already filled with 0.68 litres of transmission fluid in the works.
7.   Tighten fluid filling bolt 30 Nm
•   Use new bolt

8.   Install battery support
9.   Attach lower engine compartment cover
Note:   If present.
10.   Program volatile memories
