If a new airbag control unit is installed in the vehicle, it must then be programmed.
Trouble code 51 will be set until the control unit is programmed. This trouble code does not indicate a fault, but serves to activate the airbag telltale until the control unit has been correctly programmed. During programming, the control unit is informed about whether an airbag system with one squib circuit (driver airbag only) or with two squib circuits (driver and co-driver airbag) is installed in the vehicle.
If trouble code 51 is set, only limited diagnosis is possible with TECH 1:
- Trouble codes can be read out but not deleted. - Data list parameters cannot be displayed - The snapshot mode cannot be used.
Until trouble code 51 is deleted, i.e. as long as the control unit has not been programmed, the control unit deployment function is blocked, i.e. the airbag system is not operational.
To program the control unit and thus delete trouble code 51, carry out the following instructions exactly.
