Rear Differential, Remove and Install

  Remove

For exhaust system: Remove exhaust system (2) starting from catalytic converter

Remove drive shaft (1) – see operation "Drive Shaft, Remove and Install".

Detach propshaft with disc joint (3) from rear differential flange and attach to vehicle underbody with wire.

Disconnect wiring harness plug for wheel sensor.

Position hydraulic jack with KM-485 (3) or KM-6195 and KM-904 under rear differential – ensure that level control sensor is not damaged.

Detach fastening bolts for front damping bushing and both rear damping bushings (1 and 2) from rear axle body and rear differential.

Lower hydraulic jack with rear differential.

  Measure

Measure distance (I) between the two rear damping bushings (4). Nominal value 300 to 302 mm.

If necessary: correct the gap by smoothly withdrawing KM-671 and KM-833-4 on both damping bushes.

  Install

Install fastening bolt for front damping bushing (1) in damping bushing. Raise hydraulic jack with rear differential.

Attach rear differential to rear damping bushing with fastening bolts (2).

Install fastening bolt for front damping bushing to rear axle body – tightening torque 100 Nm / 74 lbf. ft. +75° + 15°.

Tighten fastening bolts for rear damping bushings – tightening torque – 90 Nm / 66 lbf. ft. +30° +15°.

Connect wiring harness plug (1) for wheel sensors and clip onto vehicle underbody.

Attach propshaft with disc joint to rear differential flange – tightening torque 95 Nm / 70 lbf. ft. (For Torx bolts (3): Use new fastening bolts and fastening nuts and tighten to 50 Nm / 37 lbf. ft. + 75° + 15°).

Install drive shafts (2) – see operation "Drive Shafts, Remove and Install".

Install exhaust system starting at catalytic converter LUREF_1.gif
