Oil Pump, Remove and Install > < Con-rod Bearing, Replace

Upper Part of Oil Pan, Remove and Install

  Remove

Remove lower part of oil pan (2) – see operation "Oil Pan, Lower Part, Remove and Install".

Disconnect wiring harness plug (1) from oil temperature sensor.

Remove front exhaust pipe bracket fastening bolts from front exhaust pipe (5) and transmission (4) – note different bolt lengths.

Remove fastening bolts for the upper part of the oil pan (3) from transmission.

Caution

Remove upper part of oil pan housing (1) from cylinder block.

For better clarity, the fastening nut positions are illustrated in Illus. II (arrows) on removed oil pan.

  Clean

Clean sealing surfaces and remove gasket remnants.

Caution

Apply a bead of adhesive sealing compound (black) to joints (arrows) of oil pump and rear crankshaft bearing cap.

  Install

Install upper part of oil pan with new gasket to cylinder block and oil pump.

Caution

Installation sequence:

Do not completely tighten bolts – loosely install front exhaust pipe bracket.

Tighten bolts on cylinder block and oil pump – tightening torque – 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.

3

Tighten fastening bolts on transmission housing and bracket of front exhaust pipe – tightening torque (M8) 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. or (M10) 40 Nm / 29.5 lbf. ft.

  Install

Connect wiring harness plug to oil temperature sensor.

Install lower part of oil pan – see operation "Lower Part of Oil Pan, Remove and Install".

  Inspect

Start engine and allow it to run until oil pressure telltale extinguishes. Check engine oil level and correct if necessary.
