Note:

Before performing this test, ensure that the signal input at the ABS control unit from the "rear left" wheel speed sensor is supplying plausible values, and that trouble codes 44 and 45 are not set in the ABS-2SH. If the "rear left" wheel speed sensor does not supply a signal or one of these trouble codes is stored, start trouble-shooting as specified in the "Anti-lock Brake System ABS-2SH" Checking Procedures.

 

 

Notes on Trouble-shooting:

Nominal Value:

Cause of fault:

(If nominal value is not attained)

 

·   Raise vehicle

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from DDE 2.1 control unit K70

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      ground

·   Slowly turn rear left wheel

 

changes between

less than 1 V

greater than 8.5 V

If nominal value is attained:

·   DDE 2.1 control unit K70 defective

 

Important:

If the rear wheel is turned too fast,

the following average value emerges

 

greater than 4V

If nominal value is not attained:

·   Perform next test

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from radio H1

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      ground

·   Slowly turn rear left wheel

 

changes between

less than 1 V

greater than 8.5 V

If nominal value is attained:

·   Radio H1 defective

 

If nominal value is not attained:

·   Perform next test

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from warning buzzer H27 (Saudi Arabia only)

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      ground

·   Slowly turn rear left wheel

 

changes between

less than 1 V

greater than 8.5 V

If nominal value is attained:

·   Warning buzzer H27 defective

 

If nominal value is not attained:

·   Perform next test

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from Servotronic control unit K41

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      ground

·   Slowly turn rear left wheel

 

changes between

less than 1 V

greater than 8.5 V

If nominal value is attained:

·   Servotronic control unit K41 defective

 

If nominal value is not attained:

·   Perform next test

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from sun roof motor M61

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      ground

·   Slowly turn rear left wheel

 

changes between

less than 1 V

greater than 8.5 V

If nominal value is attained:

·   Sun roof motor M61 defective

 

If nominal value is not attained:

·   Perform next test

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from instrument P43 (speedometer)

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      ground

·   Slowly turn rear left wheel

 

changes between

less than 1 V

greater than 8.5 V

If nominal value is attained:

·   Instrument P43 defective

 

If nominal value is not attained:

·   Perform next test

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from MID/ TID control unit U16/ U15

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      ground

·   Slowly turn rear left wheel

 

changes between

less than 1 V

greater than 8.5 V

If nominal value is attained:

·   TID/ MID control unit U15/ U16 defective

 

If nominal value is not attained:

·   Perform next test

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from ABS control unit U4.8

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      ground

lower than 0.1 V

·   Short circuit to voltage

from:  wiring harness plug for ABS control unit U4.8 Ter. 6

to:      wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

or

to:      wiring harness plug of one of the previously mentioned systems H1 Ter. 5, H27 Ter. 2, K41 Ter. 4,    M61 Ter. 6, P43 Ter. 19, U15/ U16 Ter. 12 (26 P)

 

 

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      ground

greater than 100 kW (¥)

·   Short circuit to ground

from:  wiring harness plug for ABS control unit U4.8 Ter. 6

to:      wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

or

to:      wiring harness plug of one of the previously mentioned systems H1 Ter. 5, H27 Ter. 2, K41 Ter. 4, M61 Ter. 6, P43 Ter. 19, U15/ U16 Ter. 12 (26 P)

 

 

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:  wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

to:      wiring harness plug for ABS control unit U4.8 Ter. 6

lower than 2 W

·   Circuit interruption

from:  wiring harness plug for ABS control unit   U4.8 Ter. 6

to:      wiring harness plug for DDE 2.1 control unit K70 Ter. 29

 

 

 

If nominal values are attained

·   ABS control unit U4.8 defective
