Table 10, Checking Cross - linked Electronic Systems

General

To improve driveability and ensure a high standard of safety, vehicle electronic systems are linked to one another with data and control leads.

This process is called cross - linking.

For example, the engine and transmission management systems are cross - linked to provide smoother shifting.

The following individual systems are cross - linked:

-      Engine management, automatic transmission, ABS / TC, air conditioning, board computer and instrument panel

-      Air conditioning and auxiliary fans

-      Central door locking system and anti - theft warning system / immobilizer, electr. window winders, electr. sliding roof

-      MID (Multi lnfo Display), radio, CD changer

Checking; General

The self - diagnosis function of modern electronic systems means that they are capable of monitoring their own system and the interfaces to other systems. They are however not capable of understanding and evaluating faults in connected systems.

This means that, in the most unfavourable circumstances, faults in one system may cause subsequent faults in systems connected to it.

Checking

The following lists all FO: DATA LIST test steps which may be set if there is a malfunction in the cross - linking, e. g.

-      faults in driveability

-      telltale of one or more connected systems illuminates

Observe notes in relevant Checking Procedures when checking.
