For vehicles with petrol engines, there is only one part number for the transmission control unit.

Therefore, after replacement of the transmission control unit, the engine variant must be reprogrammed in the transmission control unit, to adapt the shift curves and characteristic curves to the relevant engine.

 

 

Press key F7 in the system main menu. Follow the instructions in the TECH 1 display.

 

 

 

In the TECH 1 menu, select the installed engine.

 

 

TECH 1 compares the identification data stored in the engine control unit with the data stored for this variant in the transmission control unit.

 

 

The TECH 1 display on the right indicates that the version programmed until now

(for new transmissions, the non-programmed variant) does not suit the installed engine.

 

 

Note:

 

If TECH 1 recognises that the desired transmission/engine combination is already present, reprogramming is omitted.

Before checking the data list, always ensure that the correct engine variant is programmed in the transmission control unit. Some trouble codes can be set when, for example, the transmission control unit for a X 30 XE engine are programmed for a X 25 XE engine.

The resulting alterations to the shift characteristic curves can lead to transmission overload and, as a consequence, to transmission failure.

If the transmission for a 6-cylinder engine is programmed to the transmission variant for a 4-cylinder engine, the transmission control unit goes into the emergency program. Trouble code 41 is set.
