General Instructions / Safety Measures

·  Never connect or disconnect wiring harness plugs to/from the transmission control unit or other control units with the ignition switched on.

·   When other control units (e.g. ABS control unit) are disconnected, always delete their trouble codes and check them for correct functioning as well after completing test steps.

·   Before charging or quick-charging, disconnect the battery from the vehicle electrical system.

·   Never disconnect battery from vehicle electrical system with engine running.

·   Never use the quick-charger for starting.

·   Caution when touching voltage-bearing parts of the ignition system.

·   Control units must be removed before welding work is carried out.

·   At temperatures above +80 °C/+176 °F (drying oven), control units must be removed.

·  Use only high-resistance voltage testers for checking.

·  For test steps which involve connection of contacts of wiring harness plugs or control units to ground or battery voltage (+12 V), proceed with utmost care and concentration. Incorrectly selected contacts can lead to destruction of internal circuits in the control units in question.

·  After reconnecting the battery, reprogram volatile memories. With radio coding and station programming, inform the customer about the decoding and the deleted station memories.

·  If the automatic transmission has been removed, ensure that all ground connections have been correctly installed after assembly.

·   When measuring resistance of grounded wiring harness plug terminals to the vehicle ground (body point), it may happen that the nominal value of "lower than 2 W" is not attained.

In this case, disconnect the battery and select the body connection of the battery negative cable as the ground reference point.
