Sport/Economy driving programs - automatic
transmission AR25/35/5 L40-E
Selected by pressing a button. The Sport program is displayed in
the instrument panel by illumination of the gear symbol with the
letter 'S'. The Sport program delays shifting up in each gear.
Winter:
Can be switched on and off in selector
lever position 'D' by pressing '*' button. The winter program
serves as a drive-off aid. The transmission starts in 3rd gear. The
winter program switches off automatically when:
- fluid temperature too high (5 L40-E)
- speed higher than approx. 80 km/h
- kickdown actuated for longer than 2 seconds
- switching off ignition
- manual shift range change
Adaptive Shifting Characteristic Curve:
If the transmission control unit determines that the difference
between nominal vehicle acceleration and actual vehicle
acceleration is too great, the control unit switches automatically
to an adaptive (adapted) shift characteristic curve (adaptive 1).
If the difference is still too great, a further shift
characteristic curve is available (adaptive 2). The adaptive shift
characteristic curves cause later shifting up and earlier shifting
down of the transmission. These adaptive shift characteristic
curves are employed during driving under high engine load; for
example, driving up a steep incline with fully loaded vehicle
and/or trailer operation. When driving downhill, the transmission
shifts back automatically from 4th to 3rd gear (adaptive 3) for a
specific gradient and below a certain speed. The engine braking
effect of the 3rd gear is thus exploited, without the need for
action on the part of the driver.
Operating Temperature Program:
The operating temperature program 1 serves to preheat the
catalytic converter on starting from cold. It causes the
transmission to shift up later in each gear during the first 30
seconds after starting from cold. After 30 seconds the software
switches the program off again.
