·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from:

     S8 brake lamp switch

 

 

 

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

     from:    S8 brake lamp switch wiring harness plug Ter. 1 (SW)

     to:         ground

 

·   Disconnect wiring harness plugs from:

     H9, H10 and H36 brake lamps

     K61 Motronic control unit

     K69 Simtec control unit

     K70 DDE control unit

     K102 electric selector lever pawl

     P25 Check Control  control unit

     U4.8 ABS control unit

 

 

 

     from:    S8 brake lamp switch wiring harness plug Ter. 1 (SW)

     to:      S8 brake lamp switch wiring harness plug Ter. 2 (SWGE)

 

Carry out the following tests on the following pages after each time one of the wiring harness plugs is connected.

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Connect wiring harness plugs:

     H9, H10 and H36 brake lamps

     K61 Motronic control unit

     K69 Simtec control unit

     K70 DDE control unit

     K102 electric selector lever pawl

     P25 Check Control control unit

     U4.8 ABS control unit

Notes on trouble-shooting:

Nominal value:

Cause of fault:

(If nominal value is not attained)

 

·   Check H9, H10, H36 brake lamps and F2 fuse

OK

·   Replace defective parts

 

 

If fuse F2 is defective, insert new fuse and repeat test according to conditions for checking.

If fuse blows again, proceed with following diagnosis.

·   Ignition ON

higher than 11 V

·   Fuse F2 defective

·   Short circuit to ground or circuit interruption

     from:    S1 ignition lock wiring harness plug Ter. 15

     to:         S8 brake lamp switch wiring harness plug Ter. 1 (SW)

·   Short circuit to ground

     from:    S1 ignition lock wiring harness plug Ter. 15

     to:         U16 MID / U15 TID wiring harness plug Ter. 16 (SW)

·   Short circuit to ground

     from:    F2 fuse socket

     to:         S52 hazard warning lamps switch wiring harness plug

                  Ter. 13 (SW)

·   Fault in circuit for MID U16/ TID U15

     (see MID / TID Checking Procedures)

·   S52 hazard warning lamps switch defective

·   S1 ignition lock defective

 

·   Ignition OFF

 

 

·   Ignition ON

 

 

·   TECH 1 parameter BRAKE SWITCH

INACTIVE  0V

·   Short circuit to voltage

     from:    S8 brake lamp switch wiring harness plug Ter. 2 (SWGE)

     to:         K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 39

·   K85 transmission control unit defective

 

 

·   Bridge wiring harness plug

 

 

·   TECH 1 parameter BRAKE SWITCH

ACTIVE   12V

·   Short circuit to ground or circuit interruption

     from:    S8 brake lamp switch wiring harness plug Ter. 2 (SWGE)

     to:         K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 39

·   K85 transmission control unit defective

 

 

Important:

 

 

·   Ignition ON

 

 

·   TECH 1 parameter BRAKE SWITCH

 

 

·   Bridge wiring harness plug

     from:    S8 brake lamp switch wiring harness plug Ter. 1 (SW)

     to:         S8 brake lamp switch wiring harness plug Ter. 2 (SWGE)

INACTIVE  0V

·   Fault in circuit of control unit/component connected immediately beforehand

·   TECH 1 parameter BRAKE SWITCH

ACTIVE   12V

·   Fault in circuit of control unit/component connected immediately beforehand

 

 

 

If nominal values are attained

·   Check adjustment of brake lamp switch S8

·   Brake lamp switch S8 defective
