Fuel Filter, Replace (Petrol Engines)

Caution

Reduce fuel pressure with Pressure Tester KM-J-3470-91 via testing port – collect escaping fuel in suitable container. Observe safety measures and national legislation.

  Remove

Open bonnet, disconnect battery

Release quick fittings (1) from fuel filter using KM-796-A (2). Close off fuel lines with Closure Plugs KM-807. Open bracket and remove fuel filter.

  Install

Vehicles up to MY '96:

Slide connection clips (1) onto new fuel filter. Insert fuel filter into bracket – note through-flow direction. Remove plugs. Push fuel lines onto connections of fuel filter until the quick fittings visibly and noticeably engage.

Note:   Connection clips up to MY '96 (1) have three lugs.

Connection clips as of MY '96 (2) have one lug (I).

Do not use connection clips up to MY '96 with bushings as of MY '96.

  Install

Vehicles as of MY '96:

First insert all connection clips (3) into bushings (4) (II) – connection clips must latch in.

Insert fuel filter into bracket – note through-flow direction.

Remove closure plug KM-807. Push fuel lines onto fuel filter connections until quick fittings can be felt and seen to engage.

Note:   A tensile test is carried out at the relevant connections of the fuel lines after assembly – it must be ensured that the connection clips are actually engaged.

Connect battery, program volatile memories - see operation "Volatile Memories, Program".
