Omega B
New Design of Diagnosis Leads in Omega - B
Until now, there was one diagnostic lead (ALDL plug pin G) for all systems. With the introduction of the Omega - B, the diagnostic lead is divided up. In the future, 4 diagnostic leads will be available. From now on, these 4 diagnostic leads will be gradually introduced on ail Opel / Vauxhall models.
Note:
According to diagnostic specifications, each control unit must have an input resistance of 1 kOhm on the diagnostic lead. The input resistances of control units when installed function like resistances switched in parallel to ground. If more than I 0 control units are installed in one vehicle, which may well be the case presently, the input resistance decreases to I 00 Ohm. Reliable establishment of communications between TECH 1 and control unit is then no longer possible.
The division into 4 diagnostic leads has been made to allow simultaneous communication with linked control units. For example, the engine control unit is on one diagnostic lead, the transmission control unit is on a second and the ABS control unit is on a third diagnostic lead.
The capability of communicating with several control units simultaneously will be provided by the TECH 1 successor (introduction planned as of January 1995).
Allocation of Systems to Diagnostic Leads
The diagnostic leads are designated as K - Ieads. The allocation of control units is shown in the table below.
New Diagnostic Plug
The diagnostic plug previously used by Opel /Vauxhall (10 - pin) has been replaced by a 16 - pin plug. This diagnostic plug will be gradually introduced for all models. To connect TECH 1 to the new vehicle diagnostic plug, the DLC kit, already available since the previous year, and a newly developed adapter are required.
Note:
The new diagnostic plug is located in the central electronics, on the right below the steering wheel.
16/14 Pin Switched DLC Adapter
To connect the tester to vehicles which have the new diagnostic plug and 4 diagnostic leads, a special adapter had to be developed. In the first place, TECH 1 has to be adapted to the new diagnostic plug, and secondly, the 4 vehicle diagnostic leads have to be switched to TECH l's single diagnostic lead.
Function of 16/14 Pin Adapter
The main task of the 16 / 14 pin adapter is to switch the relevant diagnostic lead through to TECH 1. It is therefore equipped with a switch logic which uses the system selected in the TECH 1 diagnosis program automatically to connect the relevant vehicle diagnostic lead to the TECH 1 diagnostic lead.
The software for switching the adapter is already contained in this year's Model Year program module. If Model Year 1995 is selected instead of Model Year 1994 and an Omega - B system is then chosen, the query " 1 6 / 14 pin switched DLC adapter (YES / N0)" appears. If the YES key is actuated, TECH 1 produces a signal which adjusts the 16 / 14 pin adapter.
