Notes for Trouble-shooting:

Nominal Value:

Cause of Fault:

(If nominal value is not attained)

·   Check speedometer display

OK

If nominal value is attained:

·   Lead for odometer signal to TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 is interrupted

·   Ignition OFF

·   TID defective

·   Remove instrument assembly

·   Disconnect TID wiring harness plug

·   Install instrument assembly

·   Repeat test drive

·   Check speedometer display

OK

If nominal value is attained:

·   TID defective

·   Ignition OFF

·   Release and disconnect wiring harness plug from ABS control unit U4.8 (25-pin)

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage in TID wiring harness plug Ter.12 to ground

lower than 3 V

·   Lead to TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 has short circuit to battery voltage

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance in TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 to ground

higher than 1 kW

·   Lead to TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 or one of the other connected systems has short circuit to ground

·   Short-circuit wiring harness plug of ABS control unit U4.8 / Ter. 6 to ground

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance in TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 to ground

lower than 2 W

·   Lead to TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 is interrupted

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug of engine control unit

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance in TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 to ground

higher than 1 kW

·   Lead from TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 to engine control unit plug Ter. 9 (MOTRONIC, for SIMTEC and diesel Ter. 29) has short circuit to ground (measurement lower than

     2 W)

If measurement okay and previous measurement not okay:

·   Check engine control unit

·   Short-circuit Ter. 9 of engine control unit plug to ground

(MOTRONIC, for SIMTEC and diesel Ter. 29)

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance in TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 to Ter. 2 (ground)

lower than 2 W

·   Lead of TID wiring harness plug Ter. 12 to engine control unit plug Ter. 9

(for SIMTEC and diesel Ter. 29) interrupted

·   Further possible faults:

·   TID defective

·   ABS control unit U4.8 defective

·   Engine control unit defective

·   Power steering control unit K41 defective

·   Speedometer P43 defective

·   Radio defective
