Rear View Mirror, Inside

For automatic positioning (memory) of the inside rear view mirrors, the casing contains two serve motors, one for vertical adjustment and one for horizontal adjustment.

Information about the current position of the inside mirror is sent to the memory system control unit by two potentiometers, which are attached to the motor axis.

The inside rear view mirror is adjusted by hand.

To ensure that the motors are not damaged by the manual adjustment, they are fitted with a sliding clutch.

In addition, the inside rear view mirror is equipped with two light sensors (1), positioned on the front and rear of the mirror.

These light sensors measure the amount of light striking the mirror and pass this information on to the evaluation electronics.

If there is an excessive amount of light, the evaluation electronics applies voltage to a gel which is trapped between two glass plates.

The gel darkens and thus protects the driver against glare from the inside rear view mirror.
