External Paint Areas, Production Plastic Parts

To ensure that the paint structure is permanent and that the lifetime and safety of the painted parts are not affected, always use the relevant paint system. The paint systems are described in detail in the current "Paint Repair Systems" brochures.

The systems describe the application of paint to standard painted parts and new primed parts in conjunction with various painting stages. There is a risk of reduced adhesion when service painting unprimed plastic parts. When painting plastic parts, observe the application instructions specified in the paint system. Excessively thick layers of paint can change the specified mechanical and chemical design properties of the plastic.

Paint systems for standard painted plastic parts:

Paint system

1 = Polyurethane soft

(PUR)

5, 6

2 = Polycarbonate

(PC)

3, 4

3 = Polyurethane hard

(PUR)

3, 4

4 = Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene

(ABS)

3, 4

5 = Polyamide

(PA)

3, 4

6 = Polypropylene

(PP)+(EPDM)

3, 4

In case of multiple specifications, note designation on inside of part in question. Paint strippers are not suitable for plastic parts.

Standard Painted Plastic Parts

The total paint layer is always slightly thinner in comparison with the paint layer for the body.

All plastic parts can be painted with system 3 (2-C acrylic top coat) or system 4 (top 2-coat base metallic or 2-coat mica effect).

The top coat of plastic parts is applied with a slightly thinner film of paint - compared to the exterior painting of the body - to obtain optimal stone-chip resistance.

Service

To prevent changes in the paint system (cracks, wrinkles) thinner paint layers with plasticising additives must be applied in the paint repair systems in Aftersales - similar to production. This achieves the desired flexibility and stone impact resistance.

Spraying on thicker layers of paint has a negative effect on the quality.
