Vectra B
Function During an accident, a crash sensor in the airbag and pyro-technical seat belt tensioner system control unit determines the deceleration involved in the impact. A microprocessor calculates the deceleration values and then determines the deceleration progression. Variables such as the impact angle and speed are important factors in this process. The deceleration progression is then compared with the characteristic curves stored in the control unit. If certain limits are exceeded, the signal from the safing sensor is requested. The squib current for deployment is only released if the safing sensor detects a minimum deceleration. Depending on the severity of the accident, the control unit then deploys either both pyro-technical seat belt tensioners or both airbags and both pyro-technical seat belt tensioners.
