Crankshaft Bearing Clearance, Check (Determine Bearing Clearance with Micrometer and Inside Micrometer) > < 16V OHC Diesel Engine (X 20 DTL, X 20 DTH) Engine Number

 

Crankshaft Bearing Play, Check (Determine Bearing Play with Plastigage)  

Notice: 

To check crankshaft bearing play, the fastening bolts can be used again.  

Object Number: 616196  Size: DEFAULT  Inspect   

Bearing play - bearing cover removed.  

Object Number: 616201  Size: DEFAULT  Important!   

To prevent the thread from tearing when removing the bearing cap, remove grease from crankshaft bearing journal and lightly coat bearing shell with clean engine oil. Do not turn crankshaft.  

Object Number: 616197  Size: DEFAULT  Measure   

Cut Plastigage (deformable plastic threads) to width of bearing and lay axially between crankshaft bearing journal and bearing shell (arrow). Install bearing cap to specified torque - tightening torque 90 Nm / 66 lbf. ft. + 60 ° + 15 ° .

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Detach bearing cap again.  

Object Number: 616197  Size: DEFAULT  Measure   

Compare width of flattened plastic thread (arrow) with measuring scale.  

"Plastigage" is available for various measuring ranges.  

Perm. crankshaft bearing clearance: see Technical Data.  

Notice: 

When reading the value, do not confuse millimetres with inches on the measuring scale.  

Object Number: 616192  Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect   

Attach crankshaft bearing cap to cylinder block with new fastening bolts - tightening torque 90 Nm / 66 lbf. ft. + 60 ° + 15 ° .
