Cylinder Head  

Cylinder Head Cover, Remove and Install  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove engine cover and engine vent hose (1) from cylinder head cover (illus. F 9807 shows X 20 DTL).   Remove charge air pipe (2). Detach front wiring trough (3) from cylinder head cover or from upper part of intake manifold and lay aside to front. Unclip fuel line (4) from cylinder head cover (5) and detach cylinder head cover from cylinder head.   As of MY '98: Release wiring harness plug for glow plugs with KM-717 and remove. Remove rear wiring trough and lay aside.     Clean    Remove gasket remnants and clean sealing surfaces.     Install, Connect    Attach new gasket (7) to cylinder head cover. Gasket must be inserted in gap (6) between cylinder head cover and socket.

  Install, Connect   

Apply wetting agent (colourless) to sealing surfaces (arrows).   Attach cylinder head cover to cylinder head with new gasket - tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.   Clip fuel lines to cylinder head cover.   Install wiring trough on cylinder head cover and upper part of intake manifold.   As of MY '98: Attach rear wiring harness trough and wiring harness plug for glow plugs.   Notice:  Before assembling components of the intake system (hoses, connections, etc.), they must be cleaned of any possible contamination (grease, oil, etc.). When tightening the hose clamps, be sure to observe exactly the tightening torque of 3.5 Nm / 2.6 lbf. ft.     Important!    It is only ensured that the intake system is free of leaks, thus ensuring operational safety of the engine, if the hose clamps are tightened correctly to the prescribed tightening torque.     Install, Connect    Install charge air pipe with new seal ring.   Attach engine vent hose and engine cover to cylinder head cover.
